WRD reports restoration of Saduperi irrigation tank

April 26, 2026

The Water Resources Department (WRD) has restored a key irrigation tank at Saduperi village that forms part of Vellore Corporation on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) to draw water for the civic body during summer. The tank covers about 250 hectares and can store an average of 205 million cubic feet of water. Borewells were laid around the bund by local bodies to meet the water needs of residents, and more than 15,000 people in at least eight surrounding villages rely on the tank for domestic consumption. The tank also helps recharge farm wells in surrounding villages where paddy is largely cultivated, and its restoration is expected to help store excess rainwater during the monsoon.
