Reform UK leader Nigel Farage spoke to the media in Golders Green, arguing that the government has not done enough and describing the attack as part of a broader threat to society.

The government announced an extra £25 million in funding for increased police patrols and security in Jewish communities, to be used to strengthen protections around synagogues, schools and community centres.

The Met carried out a search at an address in Great Dover Street, Southwark, where detectives were investigating an incident reported to police and believed to involve the same suspect arrested in Golders Green.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said officers confronted a man they believed to be a terrorist, who refused to show his hands, was violent and continued to pose a threat. Police feared the suspect could have an explosive device and Tasered him while he continued to try to attack and stab officers. The Met said it was also reviewing whether the attack was deliberately targeting the Jewish community.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He is described as a British national, born in Somalia. He was initially taken to hospital, later discharged, and then remained in custody at a London police station.

The two Jewish men were named locally as Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76. They were treated at the scene and remained in a stable condition in hospital. Moshe’s injuries were described as more serious, though doctors were optimistic about a full recovery.

CCTV shows the suspect at 11:15 BST walking toward Golders Green Road and attacking a man; another clip shows the suspect pursuing a man along Golders Green Road. At 11:20 BST, the suspect approached a bus stop and attacked a man waiting there. An officer Tasers the suspect, who falls to the ground; medics treat him and he is later placed on a stretcher into an ambulance.

A suspected arson attack was carried out at a memorial wall in Golders Green, containing tributes to people killed by the Iranian regime and those killed in the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.

A bottle containing an accelerant was thrown through the window of Kenton United Synagogue in north-west London.
