UP to study neighbouring states’ models to tackle human-wildlife conflict
The Uttar Pradesh forest department will study wildlife conflict management models from neighboring and other states to strengthen mitigation and long-term strategies. A consultative meeting at the UP forest headquarters brought together officials, experts, scientists, and representatives from institutions working in wildlife conflict management to discuss best practices and technologies. UP aims to study innovative technologies and operational methods used elsewhere, including Uttarakhand and Maharashtra models.

The meeting reviewed the Maharashtra Model, including hotspot mapping, deployment of trained rescue teams, involvement of veterinarians with wildlife management expertise and use of technology-based interventions.

Officials discussed Uttarakhand’s Living with Leopards programme, school awareness campaigns, media workshops and community participation initiatives aimed at reducing conflict incidents. A large-scale monkey sterilisation programme in Uttarakhand and its impact on wildlife conflict management was also discussed.
