OCA welcomes India’s bid to host 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad and forms review committee

India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. The National Sports Policy 2025 recognizes the economic potential of sports and seeks to promote sports tourism, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, and international events.

India has ambitious plans to host multi-sport events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, and aspires to bid for the 2036 Olympics, with existing infrastructure development for the 2030 CWG.

The OCA is considering a proposal to reschedule the Asian Games to a year preceding the Olympics to make it a qualification pathway.

India has hosted the Asian Games in 1951 (the first edition) and 1982; other countries showing interest in hosting the 2038 Games include South Korea and Mongolia.

The technical report from the Inspection and Evaluation Committee will be discussed at the next OCA Executive Board meeting, scheduled to be held in Nagoya, Japan, in September 2026, coinciding with Japan hosting the 20th Asian Games.

The Inspection and Evaluation Committee will visit Ahmedabad to conduct an on-site review of the city’s sports venues and facilities, operational plans, infrastructure readiness, and budget, and will prepare a technical report for the OCA executive board.

The Executive Board decided to form an Inspection and Evaluation Committee comprising leading international and Asian experts to assess on-site venues, infrastructure readiness, operational and logistical plans, and the allocated budget.

During its recent meeting in Sanya, the Olympic Council of Asia Executive Board welcomed the official bid submitted by the Indian Olympic Association to host the 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad.
