Maurya accuses Congress and SP of anti-women mindset at Ambedkar birth anniversary event

April 22, 2026

During his role as chief guest at an event marking the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar at the Directorate of Education in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya criticized the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, saying they possess an anti-women mindset and are driven by family interests. He asserted the opposition blocked the Women’s Reservation Bill, citing Rahul Gandhi’s two women MPs in his immediate family and Akhilesh Yadav’s wife as an MP, and claimed they opposed the bill. Maurya warned that women voters would respond strongly, predicting the SP would pay a heavy price in the 2027 UP assembly elections and the Congress would shrink further by 2029. He added that women voters in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu would oppose the TMC and DMK there, respectively. He stressed that no political party can survive without the support of women and reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to the Women’s Reservation Bill. He also spoke about Prayagraj’s Allahabad High Court and opposed any move to divide it, expressing hope the high court would remain unified.
