Maharashtra records highest 24,171 crimes against children in NCRB 2024 data

Publication of the article reporting NCRB Crime in India 2024 data, including Maharashtra’s leading position in crimes against children and related figures across women, cyber, and economic offences.

For crimes against women, Maharashtra recorded 47,954 cases. Mumbai had 6,358 FIRs, while Delhi was described as topping the country in this category; Pune recorded 2,631 cases and Nagpur 1,513. Uttar Pradesh was reported to have 66,398 cases in this domain.

In crimes against children, Maharashtra led with 24,171 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 22,222 cases.

Maharashtra stood third in economic offences with 20,083 cases in 2024; Telangana reported 39,127 cases and Rajasthan 27,637. Mumbai registered 7,771 economic offences, including criminal breach of trust, forgery, cheating, and fraud.

Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Anti-Corruption Bureau recorded 721 cases in 2024, down from 812 cases in the previous year.

In 2024, Maharashtra recorded 9,922 cyber offence cases, with Mumbai reporting 4,939 cases and Bangalore (Bengaluru) topping the list with 17,561 cases. The state also logged 403 cyber stalking cases and 2,827 cyber fraud cases, with 27,981 cyber crime cases pending investigation from 2023 and 2024.

NCRB data cited in the report indicates Maharashtra recorded 8,103 cyber offence cases in 2023.
