May 11, 2026

In a press release issued here on Monday, MADITSSIA president A Senthikumar urged the state government to expedite the SIPCOT industrial estate in Melur and proposed setting up industrial estates of 500 acres with intervals of 20 kilometres along the Madurai-Thoothukudi stretch to boost industrial growth in southern Tamil Nadu. He said SIPCOT Melur would transform Madurai and attract small and new investors to the district. He also noted that Madurai airport has been declared international, but runway expansion and other infrastructure improvements are needed to make it a preferred destination for entrepreneurs. He argued that more infrastructure would create jobs and reduce youth migration, and urged the Chief Minister to discuss electricity tariff concessions with industrial bodies.
