Jamia protests against RSS centenary event on campus
More than 50 Jamia Millia Islamia students staged a protest on the campus against a programme marking 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, part of the RSS-led 'Yuva Kumbh' centenary celebrations. Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force were deployed in heavy numbers. Protesters held placards reading 'Jamia is our university, not your shakha' and 'reject saffronisation of our campus', and chanted 'Inquilab Zindabad'. A protester said RSS was attempting to bring their chief guest inside the auditorium through one entrance while protests continued outside. The demonstrators, affiliated with left-leaning groups including SFI and AISA, urged RSS functionaries to leave the campus. AISA Delhi president Saiyed said the university administration was applying differential treatment, noting that RSS had been allowed to organise a full programme in an air-conditioned hall; he vowed to continue resisting such events to defend democratic rights.
SFI Jamia unit objects to RSS centenary event
The Jamia unit of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) criticized the RSS-centenary programme on campus, calling it a 'direct provocation' and objecting to the university administration's handling in the run-up to the event.
