Iran forms agency to oversee Strait of Hormuz transit and tolls

Iran's deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that any deployment and stationing of extra-regional destroyers around the Strait of Hormuz under the pretext of protecting shipping would be an escalation of the crisis and the militarization of the waterway.

The authority has introduced a framework requiring ships to obtain transit authorisation and pay tolls before sailing, with ships said to need detailed records of ownership, insurance, crew details and intended transit route, citing a form from the authority.
