Greater Noida: 7-year-old girl dies after being run over by school bus

The victim was a Roshanpur resident who lived with her parents and three younger siblings.

HT tried to contact the victim's family; they refused to comment.

The school denied the allegation of no helper and said there was a helper in the bus, but declined to provide further details.

Police said they are investigating why there was no helper in the bus; Uttar Pradesh Transport Department guidelines require at least one trained attendant on a school bus.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence was registered against the bus driver at Dankaur police station.

The bus driver, a resident of Talda village, was arrested from Greater Noida.

The incident was reported to police by the other children who alighted from the bus with the victim. The girl was rushed to the hospital and doctors declared death on arrival; a post-mortem was conducted subsequently.

After the accident, the bus driver continued dropping off the other children and later parked the bus behind the school in Talda, before fleeing the area. He was later arrested in Greater Noida.

A seven-year-old nursery student died after the school bus she was alighting from allegedly ran over her as she crossed near the Roshanpur drop-off point in Dankaur, Greater Noida. The incident occurred in the afternoon after schools abruptly announced a half-day at 11:30 am. The victim moved to the front side to cross, while the other children exited to the back in the absence of a helper, and the bus driver accelerated, crushing her under the driver's side. The driver then left the scene and completed the drop-off route with the remaining children. The victim's grandmother was on the way to pick her up but arrived late because of the half-day notice.
