Borivali's first Janta Durbar on SRA issues

May 10, 2026

Mumbai's first 'Janta Durbar' on Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) issues was held at the Atal Smruti Udyan in Shimpoli, Borivali West. Around 150 participants including residents and project-affected people attended, while about 20 senior SRA officials, including secretary Dattu Navale, addressed concerns on the spot. Union minister for commerce and industry and north Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal organized the forum, urged strict action against developers who defaulted on rents or delayed SRA projects, and announced plans for future similar forums. He stated, “I want all residents of chawls, slums and even those residing on footpaths to be rehabilitated in pucca houses equipped with toilets and drinking water taps. Rehabilitation housing in North Mumbai should be prioritised solely for local residents and not be allotted for those outside the constituency.” He noted that pedestrians have rights and those on footpaths cannot be rehabilitated there, but should be rehabilitated within the same assembly constituency, and urged choosing builders with sound financial standing while warning against false promises.
