DPR for 21-km elevated Varuna corridor submitted to MoRTH
The Detailed Project Report for the 21-kilometre elevated corridor along the Varuna river—from about two kilometres ahead of Harahua to the Varuna-Ganga confluence near Namo Ghat—has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The DPR was prepared by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) engineers and is estimated to cost around ₹6,000 crore. The 4-lane elevated road will connect NH-31 and the Varanasi Ring Road, aimed at decongesting the city. It will enable travelers from Lucknow, Jaunpur, and Prayagraj to reach Namo Ghat directly, from where boats can be taken to the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple, bypassing city traffic. A stretch of the corridor will pass through 2.5655 acres of land managed by Cantonment Board Varanasi, which has referred the approval process to the Ministry of Defence. Cantonment Board Varanasi CEO Satyam Mohan confirmed the development.
