April 20, 2026

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the notification of a comprehensive SOP to identify and tackle tree-related offences, including setting up 24x7 control rooms and quick-response teams to enable real-time action on complaints across the capital. The SOP reactivates the green helpline number 1800118600 and the green helpline portal, with complaints to be lodged via toll-free helpline, online portal, or offline modes. Complaints will be transmitted in real time to field officers; quick-response teams will reach the site within a stipulated time and will collect evidence scientifically through geo-tagged photos and videos. Officials of the forest department, including beat officers and tree officers, are empowered to issue prohibitory orders, seize equipment, and coordinate with law enforcement agencies. The move follows the PM’s directions and aims to strengthen enforcement of tree protection. Activists welcomed the SOP but cautioned that implementation will be the real test.
