Governor Anandiben Patel launched the first phase of Census 2027 at a programme held at Jan Bhavan. She described the census as the cornerstone of democracy and said the data generated will guide policy-making, development works and welfare schemes. She highlighted the digital nature of the census, making the process simpler, faster and more transparent. Citizens can self-enumerate online through the official portal se.census.gov.in between May 7 and May 21. After completion, residents will receive a self-enumeration ID, which must be shared with enumerators visiting their homes. She called for collective effort to make this national initiative a success and to contribute toward building a strong, inclusive and developed Uttar Pradesh.

At a programme held at his official residence, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the house-listing and housing census exercise with the motto 'Hamari Janganana, Hamara Vikas'. He emphasized data-based decision-making and the role of accurate census data in the implementation of infrastructure, education, healthcare, social security and public welfare schemes. He announced that digital census is being conducted for the first time, with self-enumeration available from May 7 to May 21; thereafter, census personnel will conduct door-to-door surveys during field operations in the second phase. Enumeration of every individual will occur in the second phase, caste enumeration is included, and forest-area villages will be covered for the first time. Real-time data and a dedicated census portal will enable monitoring up to village and ward levels. For the exercise, around 5.47 lakh personnel are deployed (4.50 lakh enumerators, 85,000 supervisors, 12,000 state/district-level officers), with about 5.35 lakh personnel already trained for both phases. He urged public participation and accuracy, and extended best wishes to officers, employees and citizens involved.
