CM reviews Patna Metro progress, satellite townships and Ganga Path; signals speedier urban projects

A conference titled 'From evidence to action: Environmental sustainability and urban futures in Patna' was jointly organized by The London School of Economics (LSE), Northeastern University and the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI). Professor Swati Dhingra (LSE) presented waste segregation study findings with Stephen Machin, noting household training yields benefits five times the costs and sustained segregation. The conference highlighted that 40% of Patna Municipal Corporation’s revenue expenditure is spent on waste management. Bihar government officials stressed practical steps for environmental protection, including Dipak Kumar Singh’s emphasis on behavioral change and waste segregation at source, Tripurari Sharan’s call for public awareness, and officials like Amir Subhani and Harjot Kaur Bumrah underscoring sustainable power supply and education alongside reforms.

Following the meeting, the CM conducted an on-spot inspection of the Ganga Path project, visiting Digha, LCT Ghat and Bans Ghat to assess ongoing works. He issued directions for proper beautification and development to ensure safe and enjoyable public use of the area.

The Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at the CM’s secretariat to assess the Patna Metro Rail project, proposed satellite townships, and the JP Ganga Path integrated park development. Urban Development and Housing Department principal secretary Vinay Kumar briefed on metro progress, cost escalation, and delays. The discussion covered 11 satellite townships, legal and procedural hurdles, and a proposed personal rapid transit system linking Patna Airport to the metro network, with a press communique from the IPRD. Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit and other officials attended.
