The ruling BJP won 82 of the 90 seats it contested in Assam, achieving a historic sweep in Upper Assam where it secured 33 of 35 seats, with Congress and its ally Raijor Dal taking one seat each. In central Assam and the three hill districts, BJP along with its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) captured the majority of seats, while AIUDF won two seats and Raijor Dal one. The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region saw BJP allied with Bodoland People’s Front win 10 seats. Congress failed to make inroads in several key constituencies; its state president Gaurav Gogoi lost in Jorhat, and leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia failed to retain Nazira, with the party winning only Naoboicha in Upper Assam.
