Assam Rifles rescues abducted Manipur woman from Myanmar extremist group

Assam Rifles troops secured the release of Olina Ningshen from the abductors at a location south of Z. Choro village, under the watch of Assam Rifles, intelligence, and other agencies. The release occurred in the presence of the abductee’s husband, the village headman, and members of civil society organisations. After the release, the family and CSOs were taken to the unit headquarters at Chassad near the international border for handing over and documentation, and locals were moved to Khangphat Khn. Olina and others received medical and psychological assistance. The troops brought the unrest near Z. Choro under control, deployed multiple rescue teams, and secured ten houses while evacuating civilians to the nearest safe location. Fifteen distressed villagers, including women and children, were rescued and provided humanitarian assistance at an Assam Rifles camp near the international border. In search operations in Churachandpur district, an armed KNA-B member identified as 38-year-old Lal Thag John was apprehended and handed over to local police along with a weapon, a magazine, and ammunition.

A pre-dawn attack on Tangkhul Naga villages in Kamjong district along the India-Myanmar border led to the abduction of Olina Ningshen, a 45-year-old woman from Manipur, by members of the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone.
