Assam election results: NDA strong in Bodoland as BPF leads majority seats

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is an autonomous body under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and administers Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri and Tamulpur districts.

In the outgoing assembly, the UPPL had seven MLAs from the region, followed by the BPF with three and the BJP with two.

In a realignment ahead of the polls, the BJP parted ways with its former ally UPPL and re-inducted the BPF into the NDA after the latter's victory in BTC polls in October last year.

The assembly elections are being held for the first time since the delimitation and redrawing of constituencies in 2023.

Md Ashraful Islam Sheikh (Congress) leads Parbatjhora by nearly 9,000 votes against BPF's Rezaul Karim.

Kamal Sing Narzary (UPPL) leads Bijni by 221 votes over BJP's Arup Kumar Dey.

Bikan Chandra Deka (BJP) is ahead of Congress' Rohit Pariga in Tangla by over 26,000 votes.

Victor Kumar Das (BJP) is ahead in Goreswar, with the BJP candidate leading UPPL's Pabitra Kumar Baro.

BPF is ahead in Gossaigaon, Dotma, Baokhungri, Sidli-Chirang, Manas, Baksa, Bhergaon and Udalguri constituencies.

Sewli Mohilary, wife of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary and making her electoral debut, is leading in Kokrajhar against sitting UPPL MLA Lawrence Islary.

BPF leader Charan Boro is ahead in Mazbat by nearly 43,000 votes over Congress candidate Priti Rekha Barla.

Biswajit Daimary, the Speaker of the outgoing assembly and a BJP candidate, is ahead by over 14,000 votes in Tamulpur against UPPL chief Pramod Boro.

The Election Commission data shows BPF leading in 10 of the 15 BTC constituencies, BJP leading in 3, UPPL leading in 1, and Congress leading in 1, indicating a likely NDA majority in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
