The Election Commission will count votes on May 4 for 126 Assam assembly seats. Counting will start at 8am in 40 centres across 35 districts. The EC has deployed 5,981 counting officials and 2,348 micro observers. A three-tier security system protects the EVMs: inner cordon by 20 CAPF companies, second tier by 13 state armed police, and first tier by about 800 unarmed police personnel. Additionally, 2 CRPF companies are on static duty, 93 state armed police companies are deployed across districts, and 85 Assault Group commandos are available to election officials. Postal ballots total 119,463 voters, comprising 83,459 election duty officials, 26,696 senior citizens above 85 years, 8,614 persons with disabilities, and 694 voters engaged in essential services.
