7 arrests, raids and demolition: Anti-drug campaign gains pace in Kashmir

In Srinagar’s Palpora Noorbagh area, police demolished an alleged illegal structure raised by Hilal Ahmad Sheikh on state land. The accused was said to be involved in multiple NDPS cases, and the structure was linked to proceeds generated through narcotics trafficking.

J&K Police, along with K9 units, conducted narco raids in Awantipora and Kulgam areas to curb drug trafficking, employing systematic and planned operations.

In Awantipora, during naka checking near Frestabal under the supervision of the Pampore police station, Peer Touseef and Arif Mushtaq were intercepted. A charas-like substance weighing approximately 40.86 grams was recovered.

In Baramulla, two persons—Faizan Ahmad Teli and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat—were found intoxicated near Suspension Bridge, Gousia Colony Baramulla. During search, one syringe each was recovered; cognizance of the matter was taken. A separate incident saw Abdul Rehman Malik found intoxicated near Mukaam Bridge and apprehended.

In Sopore, during naka duty at Wagub Crossing, Hafezullah Lone of Wagub Sopore was intercepted and apprehended. A charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.

In Anantnag, during naka checking and surveillance at Sangam police post, Javid Ahmad Bhat of Melhora Wandana was intercepted. During search, 1 kilogram and 90 grams of charas-like powder were recovered.

Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested seven alleged drug peddlers across various districts of Kashmir. Narco raids were carried out in Awantipora and Kulgam with K9 units deployed to enhance search and detection. A large quantity of contraband and psychotropic substances was recovered, and cases were registered at respective police stations.

Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha launched the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’ to intensify the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking across the Union Territory, directing all departments and enforcement agencies to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against drug peddling.
