5 Lebanese Killed In Israeli Strikes As Lebanon Seeks Truce Extension

Lebanon will request a one-month extension of the ceasefire during the Washington meeting with Israel.

A second round of talks between Lebanon and Israel under US auspices is scheduled to take place in Washington.

French President Emmanuel Macron said a second French soldier died of wounds suffered in a weekend ambush against UN peacekeepers in Lebanon blamed on Hezbollah, which has denied responsibility.

Hezbollah issued four statements saying it had struck Israeli targets in south Lebanon in response to what it described as Israel's violation of the ceasefire.

Israel described a 'Yellow Line' as a 10-kilometre-deep security zone along the border in southern Lebanon, with the army saying forces remain in dozens of southern villages.

The Lebanese state scientific research council estimated that more than 50,000 housing units had been damaged or destroyed by the war.

Lebanon's authorities said Israeli attacks have killed at least 2,454 people since the start of the war.

A Hezbollah lawmaker told AFP on Monday that the group might accept indirect talks mediated by the United States, signaling potential flexibility in pursuing talks with Israel.
