15 Dead, 20 Injured as Bus Rolls Down Hill in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir

Authorities stated that the cause of the crash was not officially confirmed and that further details were awaited as rescue efforts continued.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh said he spoke to DC Udhampur Minga Sherpa, with arrangements to assist the injured, plans to airlift the seriously injured, and ongoing coordination with local administration and party workers involved in the rescue operation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock and grief and announced ex-gratia payments: Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The PMO India posted the details on X.

Police and other responders joined the operation to evacuate victims and clear the site; 21 bodies were recovered and 29 injured were taken to hospital. Several injuries were described as serious.

Residents in the area were the first to reach the site and started rescuing passengers, pulling the injured from the wreckage before emergency teams arrived.

Around 10:00 am, a passenger bus rolled down a hill while negotiating a blind curve near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur district. 21 people were killed and 29 were injured, according to officials.

Singh said he was in constant touch with the local administration as well as the BJP local workers team involved in the rescue operation.

Locals reached the wreckage first and began rescue efforts. Police and other emergency responders joined to evacuate victims and clear the site. A total of 15 bodies were recovered, and 20 people were evacuated to hospital, with many reported in serious condition. The bus was travelling from a remote village to Udhampur.
