Blockade lifted and pledge for talks announced
Around 4:30 PM, the blockade was lifted following a meeting initiated by block welfare officer Vinod Kumar. SAIL management gave a written undertaking to hold a tripartite meeting with Manki Munda Sangh and district administration on May 5 to discuss employment of 500 local youths, pollution control and welfare issues. The agitators had earlier rejected proposals to hold monthly meetings and to appoint 2-3 youths each month.
Blockade begins at Gua mines
The blockade began at 4:00 AM as villagers led by 12 Mundas blocked all roads, loading points, size scree area, zero point and other key locations around the Gua mines, halting production and dispatch. SAIL employees could not enter the premises, and traffic and transportation were completely blocked in and around Gua.
Madhu Koda joins the agitation
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda joined the agitation supporting the demand for recruitment of 500 local youths, providing momentum to the movement.
