1 dead, over 30 injured after bus overturns multiple times on Ganga Expressway

Authorities said preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and the tyre burst as the likely causes of the accident.

District Magistrate Avneesh Rai said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring proper medical assistance to the injured. He noted that a few passengers with minor injuries have been discharged after treatment, while six injured persons remain admitted to the district hospital and some have been referred to Bareilly due to the seriousness of their injuries.

The injured passengers were shifted to nearby community health centres and the district hospital for treatment. Officials said around 24 passengers sustained minor injuries, while six were critically injured and admitted to the district hospital; some of the critically injured were later referred to Bareilly for advanced treatment.

Police teams from Musajhaag, Dataganj and nearby stations, along with health department staff and ambulance services, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Rescuers broke open bus windows and cut through seats to pull out passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle. SSP Ankita Sharma said it was fortunate that the bus did not fall into a deep ditch on the expressway, or there would have been more casualties.

Around 12:30 am on May 11, 2026, a sleeper bus traveling from Khaga in Fatehpur district to Ludhiana overturned on the Ganga Expressway near the Sarai Piparia village in the Musajhaag area after its tyre burst. The driver lost control; the bus rolled three to four times, crossed the divider, and fell onto the opposite lane. One passenger, Anuj, 34, a resident of Fatehpur district, died on the spot. More than 30 passengers were injured, with six in critical condition referred to Bareilly for advanced treatment.
